William Boyd (Bill) Patterson was born August 11,1946, at Stilwell, Oklahoma to Boyd and Virginia Patterson, and departed this life October 23,2019. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of twelve and was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Stilwell.
He dated Beverly Osborn during high school and college. He graduated Stilwell High School in 1964, then attended Northeastern State College in Tahlequah. Bill was the captain of the high school football team and Beverly was a cheerleader. He would get up before school and deliver the Tulsa World. One summer, he worked in Kansas on a farm and treasured those memories of working the wheat harvest He loved driving those tractors.
He served as a member of the Army National Guard. He and Beverly became engaged. Their wedding was planned for December 2,1966 at the First Baptist Church. He was in basic training and was scheduled to be relieved in November but because of the Vietnam War he was held until December 20, thankfully. He got a three day pass and the wedding went on as planned even though he missed the rehearsal.
He had a special love for music. He and his wife enjoyed going to southern gospel concerts. Sometimes at home he would play the guitar and she played the organ. They always like to play "Mansion Over The Hilltop."
He was a multi-talented man. One who didn't want to draw attention to himself. He was always gracious and humble and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He could fix anything. It was a challenge to him when he couldn't figure out how something worked. He would think about it and finally get it fixed. Danny Isaacs, his son-in-law, would always say “Call Bill” when anything wasn't working.
He loved to fish and hunt in his early years. He had an antelope mounted that he killed in Wyoming and was always so proud of it He loved to travel with his family as 17 of them went to many places in the US.
He was a builder who took pride in doing things right He was fair and kind to others. He always had a compassion for people; he didn't like it when people wouldn't work to care for their families. He would never ask for anything. His nature and character would not let him.
He especially enjoyed studying Bible Prophecy and always looked forward for Jesus coming again. One night, after he came home after his stroke that left him unable to walk and difficult for him to speak clearly, he sang “Rock of Ages" perfectly. Any time a song would play, he would sing. He was in a lot of pain, but God blessed his family by giving more time with him.
He and Beverly have three daughters; Susan Hope, Julie Faith, and Elizabeth Charity. He loved those girls. He gave to them and they gave to him. He didn’t miss any of their activities whether it be music, sports, or leadership and made sure they went to church as a family.
Bill loved to farm. He always had a few cows, chickens, hogs, and a mule. The family worked together and raised Shawnee blackberries. The rows were beautiful. He was always meticulous and made things pretty. He enjoyed hard work. He always had a huge garden.
He had been a supervisor at the DHS and a manager and supervisor for the Employment Service.
He had heart surgery in 1998 and began doing arts and crafts. He made candles that smelled so good. He and Beverly would set-up at arts and crafts shows. The repeat customers would say "Oh there is the candle lady".
Before Bill had the stroke on June 15,2015, he and Beverly managed the cafe at the Stilwell Livestock Auction. He was a good cook and was always there to help his kids- this time Danny and Elizabeth Isaacs.
He is survived by his three daughters; Susan Bradley, Julie Stewart and husband Tim, Elizabeth Isaacs. Grandchildren Rachael, Aaron and wife Melinda, Haley, Jordan, and Joshua Stewart, Lauren, Ashley, Luke, and Ryan Isaacs.
