Annah Elnora Thurber, daughter of Joshau and Sallie Edwards Sutton, was born on April 5, 1910 in Muldrow, Oklahoma and passed from this life on Monday, May 30, 2011 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 101 years, 1 month and 25 days. She was a very loving wife, mother, nannie, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved and cherished her roles and all of the time that she was able to spend with her family and friends. Those were her precious moments. Annah enjoyed being a homemaker and loved to work in her vegetable and flower garden. Cooking and canning were among her pleasures and when you came for a visit she made sure that you didnt leave her house hungry. She loved reading and studying the Bible and wanted to share Gods love. Annah always had a hug and encouraging words for anyone she met. She had a love for people and enjoyed talking and visiting with them. The world was a better place with her in it and she made a difference in many peoples lives. She married Elmer M. Thurber on August 31, 1929 in Stilwell, OK. Elmer was the love of her life. Their home was complete when they were blessed with 5 children: Christine, Leonard, Louise, Lowee and Larry. Annah lived in the Rocky Mountain Community for 82 years and was a member of the Rocky Mountain Community Church. Her favorite words were: The Lord will provide. She was preceded in death by her husband: Elmer M. Thurber, daughter: Christine Oleta Thurber, sons: Leonard T. Thurber, Larry Don Thurber, grandchildren: Deborah Matlock Gouker, Jimmy Don Thurber, parents: Joshau and Sallie Sutton, brothers: James Robert Sutton, Earnest Sutton, Arnold Sutton, sisters: Gladdean Wallace, Pluma Fleetwood, Mildred Scott and Janie Sutton, father motherinlaw: Will and Linnie Thurber, sisterinlaw: Beulah and husband Bill Bennett, brotherinlaws: Frank Thurber and wife Golda, William Thurber and wife Anna Mae, daughterinlaw: Betty Thurber. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters: Louise Smith and friend James Collins, Lowee Ferrell and husband Gene, all of Stilwell, OK, brother: Charles Sutton and wife Nora of Wagoner, OK, sisters: Melba Morgan and Rose Riggs of Muldrow, OK, sisterinlaws: Pat Sutton of Catoosa, OK, Dicie Sutton of Muldrow, brotherinlaw: Melvin Thurber and wife Betty of Tulsa, OK, grandchildren: Gayla Limore of Ft. Smith, AR, David Thurber and wife Jan, Loyde Thurber and wife Georgia, Elmer Dean Thurber and wife Retha, Annah Jones and husband Tony, Jeri Lynn Bird and husband Michael, all of Stilwell, Jerry Lee Matlock and wife Jan of Welling, OK, Freddie Gene Ferrell, Jr. of Tahlequah, OK, Greg Vaughn and wife Lori of Tulsa, Wendy Tinsley and husband Vindell of Welling, Laura Mabray and husband Kyle of Ft. Worth, TX, daughterinlaw: Mary Thurber of Hulbert, OK, 32 great grandchildren, 18 greatgreat grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 3, 2011 at RobertsReedCulver Chapel with Maebelle Baker Speaker and Bro. Jesse F. Butler officiating. Interment followed at Caney Cemetery under the direction of RobertsReedCulver Funeral Home.
