Atha Jean Pettigrew, daughter of Mack and Pearl Ross Bean, was born on February 28, 1922 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and passed from this life on Monday, January 22, 2013 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 25 days. Atha Jean was a lifelong resident of Stilwell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stilwell. Atha was a people oriented person, who dedicated herself to serving others. She started as a hard working farm wife, milking cows and baling hay. Atha worked at Bell School, then moved on to DHS as a social worker. She was very active politically in the Democratic Party as a voter registrar and was awarded a service plaque for 50 years of service. Atha was always smiling and loved to joke. She loved to garden, sew, can and cook for her family. She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother, who doted and bragged on her large brood. She was dearly loved by all who knew her and touched many lives by her willingness to lend a hand. Preceding her in death were her parents: Mack and Pearl Bean, husband: Carl, son: Bob, grandson: Steven, three brothers and one sister. Atha is survived by a loving family that includes her children: Carl Bryan Pettigrew of Oklahoma City, Ok, Carolyn Jean Toeller and husband Robert Tyke, Johnny Pettigrew and wife Retha, daughter in law Sharon Pettigrew all of Stilwell, OK, grandchildren Bryan Pettigrew and wife Melinda of Lexington, KY, Blake Pettigrew and wife Amy of Southlake, TX, Jennifer Schmitt and husband Pete of San Francisco, CA, Danny Ketcher and wife Kay of Stilwell, OK, Jerry Ketcher of Little Elm, TX, Shandra Maxwell and husband Jeff of Siloam Springs, AR, Jonathan Pettigrew of Springfield, MO, Joshua Pettigrew and Lance Pettigrew both of Stilwell, OK, 18 great grandchildren. One brother Robert Cullen Bean of Tahlequah, OK, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive her. Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at RobertsReedCulver Chapel with Bro. Roger Haney, Bro. Herman Jones and Bryan Pettigrew officiating. Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery.
