Longtime Bartlesville resident Betty Jo Woodrell, 83, died peacefully on January 20, 2012, following a brief illness. A resident of Alexandria, Virginia, since 2003, she spent her last few years at a nursing center where she was much beloved by the staff and other residents. Woodrell was born November 24, 1928, in Bristow, Oklahoma, to Bentley and Dallah Sears. She married Don Woodrell in 1946, and the couple raised two daughters. She lived in Bend, Oregon, for ten years before moving to Virginia. Woodrell was a Certified Professional Secretary who worked at Phillips Petroleum Company for almost thirty years, retiring in 1987. She was active in the Bartlesville Art Association and the Toastmasters Organization, and served as an officer in the local chapter. She was devoted to her family and had many interests including painting, working with the deaf community through East Cross Methodist Church, sewing, cooking, knitting, gardening, and travel. She loved trying new recipes to the delight of family and friends. Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Woodrell of Alexandria, Virginia, and her partner Cynthia Attwood, also of Alexandria, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Her daughter Rita died in 1973. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Cherokee Childrens Mission, Rt 1, Box 95, Bunch, OK 74931.
