What a blessed heritage!

Bob attended all twelve years in the Stilwell School system, graduating salutatorian of the class of 1944. He worked on the family farm, which was established by his grandfather Sam West in 1918. Bob's love of the land and cattle served him well as they rounded up cows each Fall during a time when it was open range. He would reminisce about driving the herds to the local train station and loading them onto the train to sell. He had one of the first hay balers in Stilwell and would custom bale hay for other farmers. Hay season was his favorite time of the year! Even in his later years when he couldn't feed cows and cut hay, he enjoyed talking about the process. He had his John Deere 1950's vintage "Johnny Popper" tractor refurbished as a reminder and keepsake to the family of a time that was very important to him.

In 1948, he met Jewell McCully and they were married on February 11, 1950 at the Stilwell First Baptist Church parsonage. They have been members of the Stilwell First Baptist Church since the 1950's, serving in different capacities. Bob was very active in the selling of bonds to build the new church on Hickory Street. He and Jewell raised their children to love God and others.

Bob loved raising cattle, but decided he needed to further his education and received his Industrial Arts degree from Northeastern State University in 1960. He taught two years at Cave Springs School in Stilwell, then became a social worker for the Department of Human Services. He traveled all over Adair County for DHS helping many people. Bob retired from DHS in 1985. After retirement, Bob continued to help his family and anyone in need. Even in his later years, despite his disability, he never missed an opportunity to think of others.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Final resting place will be Stilwell City Cemetery.
