Bobby J. (Pete) Spencer, son of James Voyle Spencer and Esther (Keller) Spencer, was born on May 23, 1939 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas and passed from this life on Friday, March 24, 2023 at the age of 83 years 10 months following a lengthy illness at his home in Stilwell, Oklahoma surrounded by his loved ones.
Bobby grew up in Stilwell and graduated from Stilwell High School in 1957. Bobby supported his family as a salesman, working mostly in the Automotive industry. He was a dedicated worker and provider. He worked for Garrett Chevrolet, Means Furniture, Hopkins Ford, Murphy Ford, and Starr Motors, retiring in 2001. He was known for his honesty and integrity in dealing with others.
He married his beloved wife, Galeatha, on December 26, 1959 and they began building a wonderful life and family. They had a small farm and Bobby enjoyed raising cattle and working the farm. He was known for his ability to do most anything from farming to carpentry to mechanics to writing poems. His last project was finishing a deck for their home. He also loved music and collected vinyl albums. His favorite artist was Johnny Cash. After his retirement, they spent the winters in South Texas, as he hated the cold weather. They made many friends there too and he did a lot of preaching at the small church they attended when in Texas. During his illness, he continued to write sermons and poems until he wasn’t able to do it anymore.
He was a member of the Stilwell Church of Christ. He loved his family dearly and was blessed with an extended, caring church family. He was known as someone always willing to help his neighbors. Bobby was well known and liked. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
He was preceded in passing by his parents: James and Esther Spencer, his brother: Mack Spencer, sisters: Shirley Davis, Clorine Lathrop, Earlene Nevitt and son-in-law: Jeff Brown.
Bobby is survived by his wife of over 63 years: Galeatha (Patterson) Spencer of Stilwell, OK, daughter: Donna Brown of Fort Smith, AR, sons: Steve Spencer (Michelle) of Fort Smith, AR, and Hal Spencer (Darletta) of Stilwell, seven grandchildren: Christy Clark (Jared), Cindy Rofkahr (Dax), Aneisa Morris (Ted), Spencer Brown (Darsey), Ashly Spencer, Cassie Spencer and Andrew Spencer, seven great grandchildren: Adley and Cason Clark, Danielle Spencer, Azalea and Reznor Morris, Jett Rofkahr and Harley Brown, one brother-in-law: John Lathrop, and his two bonus grandchildren Spencer Jones (Maggie) and Maddie Rice (Michael).
His legacy will live on with his family and friends.
