Delaine was born Geneva May Clay August 21, 1934 to Ira William and Effie Vanzo Clay in Okemah Oklahoma. She was the youngest of six children. Her mother died when she was a baby and she was adopted by Jack James and Alma Caroline Finks, February 5, 1935 and was known as Delaine Kay “Corky” Finks. Her Daddy Jack gave her the nick name “Corky” because of a cork-screw curl she had on the top of her head. She grew up with her adopted brother Jack in Oklahoma and became a teacher.
She moved to California in the early 60’s where she met and married Ronald Homer Verbryke November 3, 1962. They purchased a home and raised a family in Santa Maria California. She continued to teach first grade for a number of years and was a stay at home mother to her two children.
Corky and Ron bought nine acres in Bunch Oklahoma and moved from California in the early 80’s. They were an active part of Jesus Outreach Church and enjoyed spending time with family in California, Oklahoma and Ohio.
Corky moved to Muskogee after her husband died to be closer to her daughter. She never met a stranger and had many friends everywhere she went.
Delaine Kay “Corky” Verbryke passed away peacefully in her sleep August 7, 2019. She was eight-four years old. She was preceded in death by her husband Ron Verbryke, her parents Ira and Effie Clay and Jack and Alma Finks, her brothers Calvin, Carl and Jack, and sisters Joyce, Jeannie and Geraldine.
