Donald Moreland

d. December 5, 2013

Donald Hastings Moreland, also known as Pete was born in Stilwell, OK on March 11, 1931 to Ray Moreland and Ada Madge Starr Scacewater Moreland. Pete was the younger brother of Jim Scacewater. Pete grew up in Stilwell until he married Elizabeth Hummingbird on April 26, 1951. They were parents to two children, Dale Wayne Moreland and Donna Lea Moreland Timm. Pete was grandpa to Michael and Mark Moreland, Evan and Jenna Timm. Pete was also great grandpa to Grace and Zoe Moreland and Christopher Eeg. Pete and Elizabeth were married for 62 years.

Pete began his work career at Phillips Petroleum Company first working in the seismograph department and then moved to a product manager position. Pete worked for Phillips Petroleum for 35 years.

Petes second career was as a cattle rancher in Peavine, OK. Working with his cattle was his favorite vocation and his happiest time. Pete loved his cows so much that he named each one. He named his beloved cows according to their looks and personalities. There was an Oprah, Beulah, Buttercup, Flossie, Ferguson, Pharoah and Moneyline, to name a few.

After 27 years on his ranch, Pete and Elizabeth moved to Tahlequah in January, 2010. This move was made to be closer to their healthcare facilities.

Pete had a huge love of music and played his fiddle every day. He loved Bob Wills, bluegrass and gospel music. Pete loved to play his favorite gospel song, Will there be any Stars in my Crown on his fiddle.

Pete loved playing music at jam sessions where he made friends with many fellow musicians. He loved his fiddle best but also played mandolin and guitar.

Pete loved food and enjoyed a good meal. When it was an extra good meal, Pete would savor his food with his eyes closed. He especially loved home grown tomatoes, fried potatoes, chicken fried steak and cooked apples.

Pete was meek and soft spoken. He loved the Lord and was strong in his faith. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

May he rest in peace with the Lord for eternity and we hope he is playing his fiddle in Heaven
