Effie Pettigrew

Effie Mae Pettigrew, daughter of Leonard Lee and Edna Josephine Thomas Hamlin was born May 29, 1927 in the Rock Springs Community near Stilwell, Oklahoma and departed this life to be with our Lord on February 22, 2011 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 24 days. Effie married Wade Pettigrew on June 2, 1947 and to this union 6 children were born Donna, Larry, Jack, Roy, John and Glenda. She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Her grandkids and great grandkids were the love of her life and she cherished every moment she could spend with them. She was a faithful member of the Christian Worship Center while her health permitted. She loved gardening, sewing, tending to her flowers and everyone in the family will miss the great meals she would cook for them. She was also a super caregiver many times taking care of people several years younger than her. Effie was preceded in death by her parents: Leonard and Edna Hamlin, her husband: Wade Pettigrew, her daughter: Donna Kay Pettigrew, mother and father in law: Clyde and Cora Pettigrew, brothers: Boyd Hamlin and Paul Hamlin, Daughter in law: Joyce Pettigrew, brothers in law: Bill Cullers, Dennis Miggletto and Ben Duck. She is survived by a very loving family that includes her sons: Larry Pettigrew and wife Connie, Jack Pettigrew and special friend Cookie Doyle all of Stilwell, OK, Roy Pettigrew of Springdale, AR, John Pettigrew and wife Virginia of Stilwell, OK, daughter: Glenda Polly Martin and husband Aaron of Woodward, OK, 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Brother: Bill Hamlin and wife Helen of Owasso, OK, sisters: Wilma Cullers of Oklahoma City, OK, Pearl Duck, Faye Isaacs and Juanita Miggletto all of Stilwell, OK, sister in law: Lynda Hamlin of Howe, OK, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive her. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011 at RobertsReedCulver Chapel with Bro. Hubert Sponsler officiating. Interment followed at Farmington Cemetery, Farmington, Arkansas under the direction of RobertsReedCulver Funeral Home.
