Evelyn Kay Jake Buckner Woods, 60, of Stilwell passed away Dec. 14, 2009 after a battle with cancer. She was born August 21, 1949 to Leland Dow and Evelyn Lois Brown Buckner. She was the widow of Larry K. Lum Woods. Evelyn was a member of the Four Corners church of Christ in Stilwell. She was a 1967 graduate of Stilwell High School and was employed by Rheem Manufacturing in Ft. Smith, AR for over 25 years. She was also a labor union representative for the United Steelworkers of America. Her honors included being named the 2005 Sebastian-Crawford Counties Labor Council Outstanding Labor Leader of the Year, serving as President of the Sebastian-Crawford Counties Labor Council, and Sequoyah County 4-H Adult Leader of the Year. She also was granted the honor of being a lifetime member of the Sebastian-Crawford Counties Labor Council. She was a member of USWA Local 7893 in Ft. Smith, AR and helped lead Cub Scout Pack 761 in Stilwell. Her survivors include her daughters, Dr. Evelyn Faye Scoobie Woods and Laurinda Jayne Duck Woods, both of Stilwell, and one grandson, Noah K. Woods also of Stilwell. She is also survived by brothers and sisters: Bill Buckner, PO and Jeanne Buckner, Allen Buckner, Gerald Buckner, Paul and Sheila Buckner, and Adrian and Faye Buckner all of Stilwell; Vernon and Barbara Buckner of Tahlequah; and Janice Nolan, Rose Ann and Bill Davenport of Muldrow. She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband, sister Jayne Smith, and brothers Bob Buckner and MO Buckner. Additional survivors include dozens of nieces, nephews, good neighbors, Steelworkers, Cub Scouts, Christians, and friends. Pallbearers will be her nieces husbands: Mick Asbill, Robert Fuson, Nathan Handle, John Kosterlistsky, Gene Nall, and Monte Phillips. Honorary pallbearers are Darlene Woodall, USWA Old District 12; Bonnie Rogers, USWA Women of Steel; Kathy Johnson, USWA Rapid Response; Becky Knox, Neosho District Cub Scouts; Myrna Burnam, Oklahoma AFL-CIO; Jean Lee, Arkansas AFL-CIO; and Ora Lee Kirk, Oklahoma 4-H. Funeral speakers and song leaders will include nephews Greg Allgood and Josh Soap and friend Rick Ritter. Nieces Tammy Allgood, Kellie Buckner, Lisa Condrey, and Christina Fuson will sing. Evelyn will be remembered for being a great mom to Scoobie and Duck, a wonderful Mamie to Noah, a good wife, and baby sister. She was the bell sheep of a large and loving family. She will also be remembered as a person who included everyone into her life and made them feel important, loved, and wanted. She was the favorite aunt of many, best friend to several, and an advocate for those who needed a way to a better life. More importantly, she was a believer in Christ. Evelyns memorial service will be at Roberts Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Ewing Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 17 from 2-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cub Scout Pack 761, in care of Tammy Allgood at RR 6 Box 1435, Stilwell, OK 74960.
