Fairest Arland Sloan, son of Frank and Martha Rowden Sloan, was born on May 19, 1922 in Henley, Missouri and passed from this life on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 8 days. He was a graduate of Westville High School. Fairest was a decorated veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, American Theater, New Guinea and Australia. He worked for the City of Wichita, Kansas as a Heavy Equipment Operator for many years before retiring and moving back to Westville. Fairest was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Gentry, Arkansas. He was a good man with a good heart and soul. He will be missed. Preceding him in death were his parents: Frank and Martha Sloan, brothers: Floyd, Freeman and Ferrell Sloan, sisters: Nona Bradford, Reba Justus and infant sister: Delphia. Surviving Fairest are his children: Gail Curtis and husband J.P. of Westville, OK, Connie Sloan of New York, NY, sisters: Marie Bowles of Siloam Springs, AR, Adolah Wright of Main Bridge Island, WA, grandchildren: Tonya Shreve and husband Scott of Cincinnati, AR, Kim Curtis of Fayetteville, AR, great grandchildren: Zane Curtis of Westville and Tyler Shreve of Cincinnati, AR. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Roberts Chapel, Westville, OK with Pastor Glenn Hill officiating. Interment following at Downing Cemetery, Baron, OK under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
