Harlene Green was born to Lenard and Margaret Nakedhead Kirk on November 26, 1938 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and departed this life on Sunday, December 1, 2013 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 75 years and 6 days.
Harlene started teaching elementary school in Bell in 1972. She became a grant writer for the public schools in Adair County and many other school systems in Oklahoma for 30 years. She was also a grants reader in Washington, D.C. during those years as well. Harlene worked at the Cherokee Nation, where she was instrumental in starting the Cherokee Childrens Choir. She was an adamant advocate for restoring the Cherokee Language to the Cherokee people. She wrote and published the book, Mariah, A Cherokee Woman. Harlene had three churches that were dear to her heart: Salem Baptist, Immanuel Baptist and Cherry Tree Baptist. She was a devout Christian lady.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Lenard and Margaret Kirk, husband: Kenneth Wayne Peanut Green, sisters: Sue Gerrie, great grandson: Colorado Wayne Brown.
Remaining to keep her memory are her children: Michael Green and wife Celia, Teressa Jones and and husband Kenneth, Cynthia Brown and husband David, all of Stilwell, grandchildren: LaNetta Liles, Michele Roye, Elisabeth Fuson, Kristopher Jones, Bradley Jones and Ryan Jones, Jennifer Brown, Matthew Brown and Kevin Brown, 9 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Salem Baptist Church, Stilwell, Oklahoma with Bro. David Mink officiating. Interment to follow at Salem Cemetery under the direction of RobertsReedCulver Funeral Home.
