James Garland Eagle, son of Jimmie and Maude Flynn Eagle was born January 21, 1951 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and departed this life to be with our Lord on July 2, 2013 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 11 days. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for many years. He served on four school boards including Dahlonegah, Bell, Sequoyah and Bacone. He also worked at Baldor for 18 years, and Mrs. Smiths Bakery for 2 years. He served eight years as a Tribal Council member and Deputy Chief for four years all for the Cherokee Nation. Garland loved going to the cabin, car races, WWE wrestling and was an avid OU fan. He was very active in the community while his health permitted and especially loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, special nephew Clyde Bess Moten III, 1 brother Jimmie Eagle Jr. and 1 sister Daisy Eagle. Garland is survived by a very loving family that includes his wife of over 39 years: Abbie Eagle of the Home in Stilwell, OK, 3 children Robert Leaf Eagle and wife Melissa, Laura Gail Soap and husband Charles, Jamie Martinez, 2 special nephews who were like sons Timothy Wayne McCoy and wife Jackie, Nathan Bryce Moten and wife Julie all of Stilwell, OK, grandchildren Lindsey Whetsell and husband Richard, Hunter Eagle Soap, Braden Soap, CJ Soap, Madison Eagle, Rylan Eagle, Maria Martinez, Francisco Martinez Jr., Tavian Martinez, Tylah Wilson, Traven McCoy, Rodney McCoy, Brooke McCoy, Jacklyn McCoy, Jacob Smith, Jaden Smith and Raven Clyde Eli. Siblings Lawrence Eagle and wife Emma, Eugene Eagle all of Stilwell, OK, Chris Feeling and husband Durbin of Tahlequah, OK, Louise Littlejohn and husband Ronny, Stoney Eagle and wife Louann, Deloris Meisner all of Stilwell, OK, Dorothy Foster and husband Charles of Tahlequah, OK, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of many, many friends also survive him. Funeral services at 11 am on Monday, July 08, 2013 at Sequoyah High School, Tahlequah, OK with Bro. Gary Flynn, Bro. Richard Pickup, Chief Bill John Baker, Deputy Chief S. Joe Crittenden and Tribal Council Member Joe Byrd officiating. Interment followed at Salem Cemetery under the direction of RobertsReedCulver Funeral Home, Stilwell, Oklahoma.
