Joseph Harley Stewart passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on 21 December 2017 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Joe was born 22 March 1931 in Greeley, Colorado.
He spent his boyhood working on the family farm in Stilwell, Oklahoma.
He married Georgia Ann Kates while stationed at Carswell AFB Forth Worth, Texas and they were married for 58 years until her passing in January 2009.
He had three children JoAnn Stewart Lange, husband Larry Lange, Robert Stewart, wife Yun Ok Yi, James Stewart, and wife Lesa Storm Stewart. They had 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Lucille Poteet Stewart, his brothers James "JR" Stewart, Williams "Garland" Stewart, George Stewart and his sister Ilia Stewart Eisner and his infant son Joseph Harley.
He is survived by his sisters Geneva Stewart Erhhahl and Lucille Nelson and wife Robyn Stewart.
Joe joined the Air Force in 1948 and was a crewman on numerous military aircraft ending with the B36 bomber. He switched to the Minuteman missile program and was a senior crew chief upon retiring in 1969. He moved with his family to Benbrook, Texas where he worked at General Dynamics and Hudgens truck rental until he retired again to his hometown in Stilwell, Oklahoma. He operated Stewart's Auto Repair until his retirement in 1996. He loved to garden, read, hunt, fish, write computer programs and practice the art of gun smithing.
