Joyce Covey

Joyce Christel Covey, daughter of Noah and Susie (Gregory) Nickens, was born December 1, 1924 in Watts, Oklahoma and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 18 days.

Joyce graduated from Watts High School in 1942 and studied music at Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo. and later at Tulsa University, where she became a very accomplished organ and piano player. She met the love of her life, Lee Covey in Watts, Oklahoma. They were married on March 4, 1948 and enjoyed 65 years of happiness together.

After a short time they moved to Tulsa, where she played the organ for Ninde Funeral Home and various Churches in the Tulsa area, including Oral Roberts Tent Crusades. While in Tulsa, they had 3 children. She also taught private piano lessons, a vocation she continued for many years after later moving to the Westville and Stilwell areas.

In 1971 Joyce and Lee moved to Westville and purchased a farm for retirement. Then in 1978 they bought a larger farm in Stilwell where they lived for manv years. She played the organ for Church and piano for the Senior Citizens Center. She loved reading, going to the lake, traveling and seeing her grandkids, who called her Mamoo. She also enjoyed traveling to McAllen, Texas to spend the winter months.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee, an infant daughter, one sister: Inez McLeod, and five brothers: Floyd, Orville, Otis, Loy, and Odell Nickens.

Joyce is survived by two sons: Daryl Covey and wife Brandi of Lexington, OK and Victor Covey and wife Donna of Westville, OK, Grandsons Mike McConnell of Prairie Grove, AR, Steven Covey and wife Jennifer of Houston, Tx, David Covey of Norman, Ok and Michael Covey of Lexington, OK, and Great grandson Jason Covey of Lexington, OK, and Great granddaughters Katharine and Karaline McConnell of Prairie Grove, AR and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Joyce was a very caring and compassionate, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel with Bro. Doug Davis officiating. Interment at 10 am on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, OK.
