Loretta Muskrat

March 6, 1944 — March 28, 2017

How can you condense a lifetime of love and living into an obituary? You start with the facts....

Loretta Sue (Nofire) Muskrat was born March 6,1944 to Mitchell and Johnnie (Mathews) Nofire. She attended Bell School, Stilwell High School and Flaming Rainbow University. She married Thomas Muskrat, a marriage that lasted for 54 years. They are the parents of Kimberly Ann, Timothy Ray and Little Bear Muskrat.

To her, Sue's most important role was being wife and mother. Thomas, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her reason for living. She and Thomas also opened their home to many other young people who needed to be a part of a loving family.

She worked as a Teacher's Aide at Bell School and as a teacher for Cherokee Nation Headstart and Cookson Hills Community Headstart. She had a special gift for loving and teaching young children. Sue could take any baby and comfort and calm them. Hundreds of her former students tell how influential Sue has been in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mitch and Johnnie Nofire and two brothers, J.W. Nofire and John (Chip) Nofire.

Sue is survived by her husband Thomas of the home, sister Delois Buckner of Bell, one daughter, Kimberly Muskrat of Stilwell, two sons Timothy Muskrat and wife Rosie of Bell and Little Bear Muskrat of Stilwell, Also grandchildren Brandi Brown, Justin Muskrat, Crystal Bunch, Morning Star Leach and husband Ronnie Leach, Lakota Elliott, Autumn Elliott, Heather, Paige, and JJ Soap and Madison Muskrat. Great Grandchildren, Trayton Mitchell Walton, Morgen Leach, Tanner Leach, Fallyn Muskrat and Xander, Eric and Jessie Moss. Along with her immediate family many cousins, nephews, nieces and a host of friends from near and far will miss her.

Sue was one of the original organizers of the Bell Pow Wow and has so many friends and "extended" family who will feel the loss of her presence.

Her church family at Salem will also miss her.

A lifetime of love and caring for others.....
