Bill Smith, son of James A. and Mary T. Walkingstick Clay Smith, was born on November 14, 1929 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and passed from this life on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 29 days. Bill was born and raised in Stilwell. He served in the Korean War as a member of the 1st Calvary Division, 15th Quarter Master. Bill received the Korean Campaign Ribbon, 2 Bronze Stars and Japanese Occupation Ribbons. After the war, he moved to Oregon, where he met and married Roberta Moon on May 1, 1954 in North Bend, Oregon. They were blessed with four daughters. Bill was a logger in the Oregon Timber Industry for many years, then went on as an owner operator for Smith Tree Farm in Summit, Oregon. He retired and returned to Stilwell in April of 1997. He was a good father, grandfather and friend. His presence will be deeply missed. Bill was preceded in death by his parents: James and Mary Smith, daughter: Susan De Ann Smith, brother: James Smith and sisters: Jadine Price, Ona Jean Rutherford and Margie P. Smith. Surviving Bill are his daughters: Margie Smith of Independence, OR, Diana Smith of Stilwell, OK, Glenda Hamilton of Albany, OR, grandchildren: Sarah Bier of Salem, OR, Robert Gustafson, Jr. of Bend, OR, Levi Bedortha of Dallas, OR, Amy Hamilton of Philomath, OR, Kyle Hamilton of Albany, OR, Audra Zook of Lincoln City, OR, great grandchildren: Ashley Meeker and Victoria Meeker of Salem, OR, Miles Gustafson of Bend, OR, half brothers: Raymond Ford of Redding, CA, Clealus Wier, Clifford Ford, Lawrence Ford, Aud Workman, Mack Smith, half sisters: Lucille Unger and Beulah Dobbs. Many other relatives and friends also survive him. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2010 at RobertsReedCulver Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jim Sanders officiating. Interment followed under the direction of RobertsReedCulver Funeral Home.
