Lydia Sawney, the daughter of Taylor and Sarah (Eli) Duncan, was born March 23, 1936 in Adair County, Oklahoma and passed from this life on August 1, 2019 at her home in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 8 days.
Lydia grew up in Adair County and attended elementary school in the Bell Community. She met and married Billy Faye Sawney on March 21, 1954 in Stilwell, OK, where they remained until her passing. She was a member of Cherry Tree Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess for 37 years. She loved serving the Lord and was always ready to take on prayer requests from anyone who called them.
For a number of years, she helped Billy Faye at the Ideal Fruit Farm and also worked as a cook in the cafeteria at Dahlonegah School. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was known for her chicken and dumplings and biscuits made from scratch.
Lydia was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed watching Dodgers baseball and WWE wrestling on tv with Billy Faye for many years.
Lydia was a #1 mom, who loved taking care of her family. She also enjoyed gardening and raising flowers and truly had a green thumb. She was a quiet and gentle soul and enjoyed talking to her baby sister, Malinda on the phone.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Felix Duncan and a sister, Anita Pettit.
She leaves behind a loving family which includes her husband of 65 years, Billy Faye of the home; her children, Donald Sawney, Sharon Baird and husband Jimmy, all of Stilwell, OK; brother Frank Duncan of Stilwell, OK; sister Malinda Whitener of Hulbert, OK; grandchildren, Robbie Coombes and husband Charley, Joey Lawson and wife Sabrina, all of Stilwell, OK; great grandchildren Scott, Micah, Samantha Jo and Amara Michelle Lawson. Many other friends, relatives and loved ones also survive her.
Funeral services were held, Monday, August 5, 2019 at 2::00 p.m. in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel with Bro. DJ McCarter and Bro. Donnie Sanders Officiating. Interment followed in the Chulio Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
