Martha Mae Ross Roberts passed from this life at the age of 77 in Madison, Alabama, on October 6, 2013 at the family home due to cancer.
Martha was born on January 19, 1936, in Stilwell, Oklahoma to Tom Ross and Nettie Caton Ross. She is survived by one daughter Debra Roberts Hall and one soninlaw David Hall of Madison, Alabama two grandchildren: Rachel Hall of Huntsville, Alabama, and Wesley Hall of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina four brothers Emmett Ross, Bill Ross, and Charles Ross of Stilwell, Oklahoma, and Albert Ross of Tahlequah, Oklahoma two sisters: Kathryn Martin of Coweta, Oklahoma and Juanita of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and several nieces, nephews, greatnieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ having attended Four Corners Church of Christ for many years prior to moving to North Carolina to be with family. She attended and is remembered by brethren across the United States having attended the West Fayetteville Church of Christ in Fayetteville, NC McRae Road Church of Christ in Camden, S.C. Leeward Church of Christ in Waipahu, Hawaii, and Hughes Road at Gooch Lane Church of Christ in Madison, Alabama.
Martha enjoyed fond memories of attending Elm Grove School, and travelling to Washington State to pick apples. She also resided at one point in her life in California where she worked at an insurance company in Los Angeles, CA, and would have lunch at the Brown Derby. Martha had also worked at Oklahoma Natural Gas, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stilwell Foods, Inc., Stilwell, Oklahoma, and obtained her Real Estate Licensure and worked at Pemberton Real Estate, Stilwell, Oklahoma the Adair County Treasurers Office, Stilwell, Oklahoma, and Tyson Foods, Inc., Stilwell, Oklahoma.
She enjoyed being with her family, travelling, quilting and working crossword and word find puzzles, and teaching bible class. She did not believe in giving up. Martha was a fifteen year survivor of breast cancer, and battled Stage IV lung cancer for four years. All throughout her treatments she kept a positive attitude and laughed in the face of adversity whenever possible.
She was married 26 years to Leroy Roberts of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, and they divorced in 1980, and she is preceded in death by him. Martha is preceded in death by three brothers: Rufus Ross, Jess Ross and James Ross, and one sister Rosie Ross Holland, and her parents.
A viewing will be held on Friday October 11, 2013, from 11 am to 8 pm at Roberts Funeral Home Stilwell, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 12, 2013 at Four Corners Church of Christ, Highway 100 East, Stilwell, Oklahoma at 2:00 pm and graveside service will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery with Leon Brashear officiating. Services are under the direction of RobertsReedCulver Funeral Home.
