Melvin Eugene Gene Fleig, son of William Everett Fleig and Ida Louisa Emiline Jones Fleig, was born on March 4, 1929 in Westville, Oklahoma and passed from this life on Saturday, December 1, 2012 in Westville, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 25 days. Gene was a beloved member of the Westville Community. He owned and ran a parts store in Westville for many years, which allowed him the opportunity to become friends with many people over the years. Gene was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict and received several medals of recognition for his valor. He married Joe Ann Roork on May 22, 1954 and the Lord blessed them with a wonderful marriage and family. Gene was very active in the Masonic Lodge. He made Master Mason on April 17, 1984 and became a Shriner on February 28, 2001. He was dedicated to helping children through the Shriners. He was a perpetual member of Lodge 549 and treasurer for 5 years. He was a member of the Westville Lodge 449 Order of the Eastern Star for which he was treasurer for 4 years. He supported the Masons 100 percent and was a dedicated member of the Westville Community. He was an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lincoln, Arkansas Post 4675. He was also associated with Oklahoma VFW and filled many positions, such as Post Commander and Quarter Master. He helped many veterans in Oklahoma and Arkansas receive benefits after their tours of duty. Preceding him in death were his parents: William and Ida Fleig, wife: Joe Ann Fleig and sister: Mary Lou Barnhouse. Those remaining to keep his memory are his children: Shelly Ames and husband Bill of Watts, OK, Mark Fleig and wife Maria of Collinsville, OK, grandchildren: Judy Lopez and husband Turk of Westville, OK, Jonathan Kunkleman and Erin Miller of Manhattan, KS, Joseph Kunkleman and Tina Etherton of Tahlequah, OK, Jennifer Stattel and husband Erich of Owasso, OK, great grandchildren: Billy Ames, Vivian Lopez, Vanessa Lopez, Vincent Lopez, all of Westville, Kendra Wagner of Westville, OK, Colton Kunkleman and Chloe Miller, both of Manhattan, KS, Jackson Kunkleman of Siloam Springs, AR, Destiny Kunkleman and Alexis Etherton, both of Tahlequah, OK, Briana Stattel of Owasso, OK, brothers: Bobby Fleig of Beaver, UT, Harold Fleig of San Marcos, CA, Jerry Fleig of Rocklin, CA, sister: Billie Joyce Hogeland of Owasso, OK. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
