Michael Feathers

June 16, 1963 — July 1, 2023

Michael (Mike) Feathers son of Birdie Killer Feathers and Joe Glass was born on June 16th, 1963, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and departed this life on Saturday, July 1st, 2023, in Maryland at the age of 60 years.

Mike’s amazing life journey started with a young Full Blood Cherokee boy, Da-shki-di, from Killer Mountain, Wolf Clan. Mike was his mom’s youngest, and she would take him to church and when he was boy, he was baptized in the Rock Fence creek. So it was him and his mom for many years, until she was gone way too soon when he was just 16. All his Aunts and Uncles and sister Norma took him in as their own, teaching and showing him the love and care of family.  Mike attended Greasy school and Stilwell High School before leaving Adair County and graduated from Sequoyah High School in 1981.  Attending Sequoyah where Tina comes into his life, (as Tina would say, "the one that loves you the most" and "answer to his Mom’s prayers") walking the hallways and meeting at the Rec Hall. Also to note, he was voted “Most Wittiest” SR year in 1981. Upon graduation, Mike joined and proudly served in the Navy from 1981- 1986 following his Uncle’s footsteps in the Military.  Mike was a Radioman and on a ship for four years. Going past Low Water Bridge, he was able see the world crossing the oceans, Panama Canal, the Azores and Persian Gulf.  Mike married Tina after he served the Navy, and they moved to Maryland.  He worked construction and then was able to work in retail as a manager. Mike returned home to care for his Sister Norma when needed and he stayed months at a time to care for his Uncle Bruce and Aunt Nan.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, canoeing and being at his Uncles James cabin.  Mike and Tina lived in Maryland the past 36 years to see the world beyond Illinois River, knowing they would be back in Ok in a few years.  Meantime, Mike and Tina have also been blessed along the way to have dear friends that have become family outside of Ok.  Mike always looked forward to coming home to OK and being around family and even his Muscogee Creek “Wilson” 290+ Family Tribe that came along with Tina.  Mike was so loved by all and he was so full of life, and will be remembered by his laughter, jokes, and his humor and storytelling. Smile, when remembering and saying Mike's name.

Mike is survived by his wife, Austina (Tina) Feathers, Uncle James and Aunt Glenda, Aunt Cherokee, Aunt Margie, and sister Fannie, many cousins, host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many dearest friends. He was proceeded in death by his Mom, Birdie Killer Feathers and his grandparents, James (Jim) and Sarah Bunch Killer, his brother; Edward Feathers, and his sister; Norma Jo Lowe and husband Tim.
