Nancy Ruth Mock, 75 passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Tahlequah Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, after a brief illness. Nancy was born on July 21, 1947, in Savannah, Georgia, to William Harold Mock, Sr. and Wyleen Cullen Mock. She lived in Savannah most of her life until moving to Oklahoma over 25 years ago.
In 1999, she purchased a parcel of land in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and embraced the Cherokee culture. On that land she herself built a log cabin, where she chose and enjoyed a solitude life, which she loved. Her family there were her animals which included, at one time, seven dogs and two horses. That animal family finally became a mule, “Sugar Plum”, a donkey, “Willie”, a dog “’Eezy Peezy”, and a cat “Kidly”.
Nancy will be mourned by her many friends and family whom she loved (and who loved her) in both Westville, Oklahoma, and Savannah, Georgia. All will remember Nancy as a very private person with an infectious laugh and “wickedly funny” sense of humor! She was also known as a “beauty” in her youth, which landed her several modeling jobs in college!
She will best be remembered for her work as an artist, at which she excelled. The best way to express Nancy’s art career is to print her biography for art shows where her work was featured.
BIOGRAPHY:
Nancy Mock grew up in Savannnah and started painting at a very early age. She says “I grew up when Savannah was just a sleepy southern town”. Nancy currently lives deep in the “boogiewoods” of Oklahoma, but says “The South is what I am all about”.
This current body of work is drawn from old memories, photographs, and her own experiences growing up in Savannah and the surrounding area. These paintings are her impressions of the spirituality of a culture that is quickly vanishing. She has tried to capture some of the joy, integrity, and serenity that is not always visible on the surface.
Nancy Mock studied art at Georgia Southern College and spent two years dedicated to the study of painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has been painting professionally for fifty years. She returns to Savannah periodically to visit family and to recharge her Southerness. “I am delighted to be able to spend such a large part of my life painting the things I know and love.”
END OF BIOGRAPHY
Nancy is predeceased by her parents and a sister, Lollie Mock Smith.
She is survived by her brother William Harold, Jr. (Susanne); nephews William Harold Mock III (Scot); Michael Joseph Mock (Clinton); Patrick O’Brian Mock (Kimberly); and a niece Chloe Ann Mock. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. The closest of which are her loving cousins Beth Mock Sheehan and Patty Kiley Wallace.
The family would like to recognize a very special person, Nancy’s dear friend Karen Keen of Stilwell, who attended to Nancy with love and friendship in her last weeks and hours. Karen, a longtime friend, opened her home and heart to Nancy, and we will always be eternally grateful. Karen, you are truly an Angel!
Nancy’s ashes will be spread over her “Boogiewoods” home where she wanted to always remain. If you wish to send a Memorial or donation, please do so to the charity of your choice. Nancy would probably prefer that to be one of the Animal Humane Societies.
