Nelma Mays

Nelma Jean Mays, daughter of Frankie Everette Denny and Nellie (Vanderheiden) Denny, was born on February I, 1934 in Nicut, Oklahoma and departed this life on Thursday February, 16, 2017 at her home in Greasy, OK at the age of 83 years and 15 days.
Nelma was a lifelong educator, she started her teaching career in Kansas where she taught Home EC and English for 2 years. She returned to Oklahoma and taught 28 years at Dahlonegah Public School and later retired in I986. During this time, she received numerous awards for being teacher of the year.
Nelma married the love of her life DJ Mays on August 27, 1957. With this blessed union was one son Terry Mays. Nelma loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ in her heart and faithfully attended South Greasy Church for many years.
Nelma was the example of a good help mate, always being there for her husband and family. Nelma worked on the farm feeding cows, fixing fence and always bailing hay. However, this never kept her from spending quality time with her grandkids. One of her favorite things to do was rake a few rounds of hay and then sneak off to the creek with her grandkids. "Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies" Proverbs 31:10
Nelma was preceded in death by her parents; Everette and Nellie Denny. A loving family survives her. They include her husband of nearly 60 years; DJ Mays of the home, her son; Terry and wife Diane Mays of Stilwell, OK, her grandchildren; Tabitha and James Braden of Westville, OK, Troy and Kendra Mays, Mary Beth and Bryson Paden all of Stilwell, OK. Great grandkids; Denton and Denver Bruner, Kenlea and Trevor Mays, Madison, Zaiven and Carter Paden, 2 brothers; Udell and wife Carolyn Denny, Ronnie and wife Nadine Denny al l of Stilwell, Ok, a special friend; Kay Brown, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive her.
Funeral services were held at 1 pm on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel, Stilwell, OK with Bro. Terry Mays, Bro. James Essary and Bro. Mack Crittenden officiating. Interment followed at Bunch Cemetery, Bunch, OK.
