Orren Wilhite

January 28, 1922 — March 16, 2016

We would like to thank all who came today to pay their respects to what this family considers to be the greatest man ever.

Orren D. Wilhite was born January 28, 1922 to John Everett & Lucy (Unger) Wilhite. He fought his final battle and went home to be with his Heavenly Father March 16, 2016. He is preceeded in death by his parents, and siblings including Raymond Wilhite, Omer Wilhite, Imogene Thomas, and infant twin brothers. Survivors include one brother, Grover Wilhite and two sisters, Wanda Catcher and Yvonne Workman all of Stilwell.

Orren & Lucy (Gladden) Wilhite were married June 6, 1942. After marriage, Orren was drafted to serve his country in World War II. He served for nearly three years in North Africa and Italy. He returned home to his family and remained in the National Guard. In 1951, the 45th Division was activated and Orren was deployed to serve his country in the Korean War. He returned home as a decorated Master Sergeant. His next journey in life lead him to barber school and opening his own shop in Stilwell that he owned and operated for 46 years. Orren, affectionately known as "The Chief" by many, retired to his farm in the Honey Hill community at age 83. After retirement, Orren was able to enjoy more time with family, fishing and gardening.

Orren was one of the founding members of the Honey Hill Free Holiness Church and was a member and Sunday school teacher for many years. Orren and Lucy raised their family in this church. Later in life, Orren and Lucy were active members of the Elm Grove Baptist Church.

Orren and Lucy's children include Delbert Wilhite & wife Sonia; Roger Wilhite & wife Jan; Donna Clark & husband Darrell of Neosho, Missouri, their grandchildren Darla Stanley of Carthage, Missouri; Don Clark of Neosho, Missouri; Derriek Wilhite, Eddie Wilhite, Orren Lee Wilhite all of Stilwell, Nikita Hummingbird of Stilwell, Jerried Wilhite of Tahlequah; fourteen great grandchildren and expecting their first great-great grandchild.

As children, we never heard our daddy verbally say, "I love you". However, we always knew because he showed it in everything he did.
