Orville "Don" Patrick, 73, died on February 22, 2017 at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, OK.
He was born on May 8, 1943 at the family home in Lyons Switch, OK to Orville and Sarah (Hamlin) Patrick. His father was born in St. Paul, AR and came to Oklahoma in 1916. Sarah was born in Middlesboro, KY and came to Oklahoma in 1912. The family ran a general store and raised cattle for many years.
After graduating from Cave Springs High School, Don earned a bachelor of arts in education from Northeastern State University. He later earned his superintendent certificate from The University of Arkansas.
He began his career at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M. Later, he taught English and history at several Oklahoma schools, after which he became a superintendent. He retired as the superintendent of Cave Springs School in 2002. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard for over fourteen years and was a member of the Scottish Rite of Tulsa. He was a talented guitarist and a voracious reader of literature and history.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Sarah; a sister, Elena (Patrick) Corbin; and a brother-in� law, Jack Amburgey. He is survived by a sister, Patricia (Patrick) Amburgey of Wichita, KS. and brother-in-law, Robert Corbin of Salina, KS.; three daughters, Stacy and husband Joseph Pratt of DeRidder, LA., Yahnah and husband Anthony Rhodes of Bixby, and Shelley Patrick of Tulsa; two grandsons, Rylo and Archy Rhodes; and many other relatives and friends.
