Rosalie Alice Auffet was born Rosalie Poteet on December 18, 1933, in Greeley, Colorado. She was born the 3rd daughter of 4 to James Harley Poteet and Nellie (Hessler) Poteet. Her parents divorced in her early childhood. She moved with her father and sister: Juanita to Oklahoma where her Grandmother Poteet lived.
She recalled moving many times through her childhood and having attended most all the schools in Adair County. It seemed like she had good memories of school but eventually had to drop out of school due to hard times. Her father then married Leola Capps and to this marriage she gained her Washington family, her 9 younger siblings.
Rosie stayed behind in Oklahoma with her sister: Juanita and worked. She married Delmar Auffet in 1954. They raised 3 children: Curtis, Anita, and Kathy. After having her children and working on the family farm, she obtained her GED and started college at NSU. She then earned her bachelor’s degree in education in 1971 then began working for DHS, working as a social worker for 21 years before retiring.
Her retirement days were filled with gardening, cooking, and crocheting. Rosie loved people and cooking for family and friends. Her family says, “she became an expert at apple pies and cinnamon rolls”. In her later years she added quilting to her hobbies. She always made time for Branson trips and OU football.
Throughout her lifetime she attended several churches around Stilwell but could recall with certainty when she came to know the Lord as her Savior as a 16-year-old. We know she is in Heaven today in God’s Glory.
The family surviving her today are her children: Curtis Auffet and wife Lois Ann, Anita Clinton and husband Mike, and Kathy Auffet. She has 6 grandchildren: Amanda Whiteley, Zach Auffet, Alexandrea Price, Michael Clinton, Dale Clinton, and Serina Heater; the number of great grandchildren has grown to 15 and she loved them all. Also surviving her today is her sister: Joann Williams of California, and 8 of her 9 Washington siblings: Curtis, Velma, Charles, Tommie, Darrell, Ruby, Carl Brent, and Jerry.
Those preceding her in death are her parents, her sisters: Bonnie Pipis, Juanita Hill, and a Washington sibling: Carole.
What a great life she lived. Hardworking and energetic.
