Sam Nofire

Sam Nofire, son of Jack Nofire and Mary Mankiller Nofire, was born on December 12, 1923 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and passed from this life on Sunday, March 27, 2011 in Bunch, Oklahoma at the age 87 years, 3 months and 15 days. Sam worked hard all of his life to provide for his family. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather and friend. The Lord blessed him with a large and extended family and he enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them. Sam was a long time employee of the Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah. His job allowed him to meet new people and make new friends. Sam was a valuable part of our community and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jack and Mary Nofire, two sisters, a brother, one infant brother and one son. Surviving Sam is a loving family that includes his children: Carmella Nofire of Bunch, OK, Russell Nofire of Stilwell, Richard Nofire of Ketchum, OK, Norman Nofire of Tulsa, OK, Sherman Nofire of Welling, OK, Euphema Johns of Tahlequah, OK, step children: Mary Sanchez and Ned Flynn of Stilwell, sister: Lucy Sinclair of Black Creek, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Fellowship Baptist Church, Stilwell, OK with Bro. Jim Sanders officiating. Interment followed at Barber Cemetery under the direction of RobertsReedCulver Funeral Home.
