Steven Kenneth Hubbard, son of Don Raymond Hubbard and Ettie Naomi Powers Hubbard, was born on January 20, 1951 in Longview, Washington and departed this life on Friday, October 31, 2014 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 63 years.
Steven was born the fourth child in a family of six as the second son to Raymond and Ettie.
After the death of his father, the family moved from Washington State to his grandparents home state of Oklahoma.
His childhood was spent as a country boy, loving to spend time outdoors and going to the creek. It was one of his favorite outdoor activities. At a Christian church camp, Steve was baptized in the Illinois River near Chewey.
As a teen, Steven and his older brother, Don, fell in love with cars. Enjoying tinkering and driving anything with wheels.
Steve had an artistic talent that he expressed in drawing hot rods and colorful flame designs.
As a young man, he went to work in the broom corn harvest in Colorado. There he met Mary Wheeler, who was to become his love and beloved son, Mark and his adored daughter, Sutton, who were the pride of his life. They stayed in Colorado and Steven returned to Oklahoma. He enjoyed finding items he felt they would like and often sent packages to delight them.
Steven was a blessing for his mother in her later years. Illness made her fragile and Steven stayed with her to be able to notify the rest of the family if she was in need. With him there she was able to stay in her home until her death.
Steve loved music. Elvis and Country Western were his favorites.
After an accident that caused him to have hip repair, he was forced to reside in a nursing home the remaining years of his life. After dinner, Steven and other residents would gather in the dining room to drink coffee and listen to country CDs. Hank Williams was the favored artist.
Westville residents were used to seeing him walk or ride his bike around town, always with a cup of coffee and cigarette. He was ready to visit and enjoyed the customer traffic at the convenience stores.
Steve always enjoyed children and liked to treat his nieces and nephews whenever he saw them.
He will be missed, but knowing he is in a better place where his pain is replaced with the joy of heaven and a glad reunion with all the loved ones who were waiting for him.
