Virgil Holmes

Virgil Holmes was born on December 24, 1941, in Tahlequah, OK to Pigeon and Bertha Holmes. He departed this life to be with the Lord and the love of his life on August 21, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years 7 months and 28 days.

He dedicated his life to the Lord, working hard to provide for his family, and being a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Sycamore Tree Baptist Church for several years.  He worked at Green Leaf Nursey for 40+ years.  He enjoyed playing pranks on his wife and other family members.  He enjoyed listening to Elvis music, watching Elvis movies as well as Western TV shows.  One of his favorite past times was mowing his yard or working on his lawn mowers. He loved sitting quietly with his wife while working on word search puzzles.

Virgil married Gelina Holmes on March 30, 1962.  Together they built their lives centered around their faith in God, family and helping others in need. 

Virgil is preceded in death by his lovely wife Gelina, his parents, grandparents, 3 brothers, 7 sisters, aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his brother Dave and wife Janey Holmes, daughter Sandra Thirsty of Marble City, son Michael and wife Cindy Holmes, daughter Renee Baldridge, daughter Shannon and husband CJ Scott all of Bunch, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Brandon, Ethan, Gracie, Jeremy, Joel, Latisha and husband Ozzie, Molly, Nikki, Shana and fiancé Brian, Shania, Tiffany and husband Cody, Trenton and wife Latisha, fifteen great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.
