Virginia Martin

On Thursday November 26, 2020 Virginia Lee Martin passed away at the age of 87 years old.

Virginia was born on December 5, 1932 in Adair County, Oklahoma to Albert and Ellen Fourkiller. On December 18, 1950 she married James P. Martin, also known as Jack. They raised one son, James E. Martin.

Virginia took great pride in her Cherokee heritage. In the 1970s she taught basketweaving and beading for Cherokee Nation. Virginia retired from Cherokee Nation Industries in 1996.

Virginia shared a very adventurous life with her husband before his passing in 1977. They enjoyed lots of traveling including a trip to Europe. They were also part of the Tinker Rangers Riding Club in Oklahoma City and participated in many parades together with their son.

Virginia leaves behind many friends in the community. She was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church and was always quick to reassure her family that her hope was in the Lord. She spent endless hours enjoying the company of her friends at the Senior Center. Virginia also enjoyed a good gospel singing, especially if they were singing in Cherokee. She was a quiet and reserved lady who loved to catch people off guard with her quick wit. Her strong will and determination can be seen daily through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband. She is survived by her son James, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
