Wilma Dean (McCully) Clark, daughter of Lawson and Lucy (Johnson) McCully was born February 20, 1941 in Stilwell, Oklahoma. She departed from this life on January 18, 2021 at the age of 79.
Wilma graduated from Stilwell High School in May of 1959. In the fall of 1959, she enrolled at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She received her bachelor’s degree in June of 1963 with a double major in English and Elementary Education.
In 1962 she married James Warren Latta. From that union came two daughters, Dena Lynnette, and Kayla Lachele.
Her teaching career in Adair County began September 8, 1966 at Zion Elementary School. Wilma taught for twenty-nine years. With the exception of first grade, she taught every grade from kindergarten through eighth.
Teaching was more of a calling than just a career. She enjoyed helping students with extracurricular activities such as 4-H Club, school programs, the school newspaper, and yearbook.
Wilma was a member of OEA and served as the treasurer of ACEA. She received Teacher of the Year from Zion School as well as Teacher of Today by Flint Lodge of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Oklahoma.
Wilma called First Baptist Church her home church all her adult life. She was active in teaching bible school Awana, and sponsoring church camp. Her Sunday School class was a source of inspiration and support during her life.
In June of 1985 she married Russell Clark. They enjoyed twenty years of marriage which included spending time with their grandchildren and traveling.
Wilma is proceeded in death by her parents Lawson and Lucy McCully, husband Russell Clark, brothers Jack McCully and Joseph McCully, and sisters Aileen McCully Campbell, Easter Irene (Polly) McCully Williams, and Jewel McCully West.
She is survived by her brother Haskell McCully and wife Wanda of Stilwell, daughters Dena Latta and Kayla Latta Fell both of Stilwell, Russel Clarks’ two children Rusty and Melissa, her grandchildren Joshua Fell, and wife Alyssa, Ashton and husband Aaron Vicente, Jared and wife Melissa Fell, James Fell and companion Haley Borgeteien-James, and Randi Katelyn and husband Zach Ballard all of Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
Wilma has eleven great-grandchildren. Cruze, Jillian, and Addileigh Fell, Jaxon Lynn, Ellianna, Marlayna, and Alyson Vicente, Marcus Fell, and Emilynn, Elionna, and Ezekiel Ballard.
Wilma will be laid to rest beside husband Russell Clark at the Stilwell Cemetery.
