Winfred Lee King was born in Spade Mountain, Oklahoma on October 27, 1932. His parents were Claude and Lois (Knight) King. He departed this life on October 17, 2021, at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 21 days.
He attended Rabbit Trap Elementary and afterwards farmed and worked in California.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army and was sent to Germany. He was in the Artillery Division of the occupying force just after WWII. After the Army he helped in building Highway 100. It was at this time that he met Altarene Center. Soon they were married and built a new home in the Spade Mountain Community. To this union two sons were born: David Lee and Darryl Paul.
Winfred had a great love for horses and there wasn’t a period in his life that there wasn’t at least one on his place. He loved to read, whether it was a Western Horseman or a book on bees (another hobby). He was a great provider. He drove a truck until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother: Deverl; and 1 nephew: Jimmy C. King.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years; his sons: Dave and wife Rita of Strang, Oklahoma, and Darryl and wife Dianna of Stilwell, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren: Casey King and wife Erin of Pryor, Oklahoma, Shandi Teague and husband Kyle of Rose, Oklahoma, and Travis Smith and wife Kailey of Salina, Oklahoma; 8 great grandchildren; 1 niece: Connie Fathery; and 2 nephews: Kenneth King of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and James King of Stilwell, Oklahoma.
Graveside services were held at 2 pm on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Spade Mountain Cemetery, Stilwell, Adair County, Oklahoma with Bro. Jason Ritchie officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home, Stilwell, OK.
