Woodrow Wilson Buck English, son of John and Mattie Parker English, was born on October 28, 1912 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and departed this life on March 25, 2010 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 28 days. He married Alta Dewey Louise Longbone on March 22, 1932 and to this union 5 children were born: Leonard, Johnny Ray, Emma, Judy and Carol. He also raised his grandson, Johnny Ray English, Jr. He was a very devoted son, husband, father and grandfather to his family. He worked as a farmer all of his life. He called himself a cabinet maker and worked for Mac McCallum for 13 years. This job took him all over Adair County and Sallisaw. He was always a hard worker and his handshake was his word. He served on the school board as clerk for many years at Peavine School. Buck raised strawberries, a big garden and planted potatoes each year. He loved messing around with and taking care of game hens and raising baby chicks. He did this all of his life. In the 1950s, Buck worked in California each summer at Hunts Catsup. He loved to visit his old friends and reminisce about the old times: growing up in Piney community, telling old stories of wagons, logging and railroads. When he was young, he loved to hunt, fish and gig for fish. What a life he lived in his 97 years. He taught us all how to work hard.
