****************************************

Carla Keeter Engle (68) was born June 19th, 1952 in Stilwell, OK.  She was the first baby born in the old Stilwell Hospital.  Carla went to her heavenly home on November 4th, 2020 after a hard-fought battle with Covid-19. She had a firm belief in God, and putting her trust in him at a young age led her to become a very devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Carla was born to the late Gus Keeter and Betty (Stevens) Keeter of Stilwell Oklahoma. Carla attended Stilwell High school and graduated in 1970, later attending Oklahoma State University and earning a bachelors In sociology. At Oklahoma State she was OSU Dairy Princess and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, where she made many lasting friendships and memories. She continued her education pursuing a Masters in Counseling and Administration which she received from Northeastern State University.

Carla began her career as a social worker for Tulsa county which she transitioned into working in the school systems of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. A teacher, counselor and administrator in the Tulsa, Broken Arrow, and Bristow public schools, Carla helped many students realize their academic and personal goals. She spent many hours helping young people, writing recommendations and assisting them in filling out college applications and associated forms.

She met the love of her life, Phil Engle, at a church singles party and they married in 1988. Between them, they had three children: Brett Irvine, Christa Irvine and Mitch Engle. In 2013, Carla suffered a stroke and had been wheelchair bound since the stroke. Even so, she would still have her husband Phil drive her to Bristow high school to help young people pursue their educational goals.

Her husband Phil was her daily companion and life partner.  This scripture in Corinthians  13  sums up Phil’s love for Carla  “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

In a few words, Carla was a go-getter. When she set a goal she would go after it with purpose and strength. She loved her family well. She adored her children and her grandchildren and talked about them often. Some of her most cherished relationships were with her family, including her mother, Betty and her four sisters: Georgia, Shelley, Ronetta and Tammy. They continued to enjoy spending time together and going on adventures throughout Carla’s life. Her mother was one of her closest friends and confidants, providing support and love that bolstered Carla through many storms in life.

Carla is survived by Her loving Husband Philip Engle. Her Son Brett Irvine and wife Kristy, her daughter Christa Irvine, Son Mitch Engle and wife Carissa. Grandchildren Jack and Nick Irvine, Tanner and Tucker McDaniel, Estella and Evelyn Engle . Her mother Betty Lou Keeter, Her sisters Georgia Perry and Husband Pete,  Shelley Lignitz and Husband Larry , Ronetta Briggs and Husband Don, Tammy Miller and Husband David. Many nieces and Nephews, Aunts and Uncles and cousins, family and friends.
