Mary Wear

Mary Ann (Stand) Wear was born September 19, 1942 in Stilwell, Oklahoma to John Henry Stand and Myrtle Elizabeth (Hitcher) Stand, she went to her Heavenly home on Monday, May 17, 2021 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma surrounded by her family.

Mary graduated from Stilwell High School, then went on to Nursing School and became an LPN. She was employed at Stilwell Memorial Hospital for the duration of her Nursing career of 42 years. After her retirement she worked as a volunteer in the Hospital gift shop.

She was Mary to many, but to her family she was mom, granny, aunt Meem’s, and Meme to the ones who loved and cared for her the most.

She was saved November 11, 1982 and was a member of First Baptist Church in Stilwell, Oklahoma where she was a nursery worker, Awana teacher, and helped in the kitchen during Vacation Bible School and with Church meals. She was the secretary of Ketcher Cemetery Committee for several years.

She loved to read, color, work word search puzzles, and watch sports. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandbaby, and just being together with family.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband: Robert “Bob” Wear, her parents: John Henry Stand and Myrtle Elizabeth Stand, her sisters: Elizabeth Kay, and Merle Ann Stand.

Mary is survived by her children: Darren Stand of Santa Fe, New Mexico, David B. Stand and wife Gina of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Kristie Wear-Byrd of Stilwell, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren: Morgan Wear, Tanner Wear and companion Casey, Aubrey Byrd and companion Kobe Pritchett all of Stilwell, Oklahoma, Amber Stand of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Jason Stand. Her great-grandchildren: Ryan Pritchett and expecting two more great-grandchildren. Her two stepsons: Ronnie Wear and wife Joyce of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, and Robbie Wear of Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Her brothers: George Stand and wife Lucy of Laguna Hills, California, and David H. Stand of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Her sisters: Emma Sue Teehee of Stilwell, Oklahoma, and Jonetta Johnson and husband Tom Johnson of Stilwell, Oklahoma. A special sister-in-law: TJ Stand of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and two special cousins that were like sisters: Barbara Knapp and husband Dennis of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, and Charlotte Sue Wolfe of Stilwell, Oklahoma. A host of special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm on May 21, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Stilwell, OK with Scott Latta and Ronnie LaCaze officiating.  Interment followed at Ketcher Cemetery, Stilwell, OK under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home, Stilwell, OK.
